CARDIO TENNIS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY
& 2008 TPA NATIONAL COACHING CONFERENCE
In Toronto, on Wednesday, February 27, Michele Krause, from the Tennis Industry Association, presented a full-day Cardio Tennis professional development opportunity. This seminar was a very interactive session as it required full participation from the 27 pros/coaches in attendance. Krause had the participants working up a sweat, demonstrating some of the drills that could be run for beginners through to more advanced players. Information on how to set up a Cardio Tennis program, including marketing and revenue generating ideas, were also discussed.

On Thursday, February 28 and Friday, February 29, the TPA held its 3rd annual National Coaching Conference. Thursday morning started with a presentation from Louis Borfiga, vice-president of high performance athlete development for Tennis Canada, followed by presentations by Andre Parent, national fitness coach, Michele Krause and Jean-Claude Massias. Thursday finished with a presentation on Progressive Tennis by Ari Novick, director of coaching development, and Wayne Elderton, tennis director, Grant Connell Tennis Centre.

Thursday evening there was a parent-coach seminar that allowed for some Q&A with an expert panel of high performance coaches and national team staff. The panel included Debbie Kirkwood, Bob Brett, Louis Borfiga, Marlene Nobrega, Andre Parent, Guillaume Marx, Simon Bartram and Eddie Brisbois. The TPA would like to thank all of them for participating.

Friday morning saw the annual TPA Excellence Awards handed out at the Wilson TPA Awards Breakfast. The Excellence Award for Coach of Year was presented to Quebec’s Eric Giguère. Simon Bartram was awarded the title of Professional of the Year, while TPA Course Facilitator of the Year was given to Wayne Elderton. The Hollyburn Country Club in West Vancouver, British Columbia was awarded the prize for Facility of the Year. The conference continued after the awards with Bob Brett speaking to the coaches and pros. Jean-Claude Massias and Michele Krause then completed their third and second presentations, respectively. Guillaume Marx and Andre Parent finished off a great two days at the TPA Conference.

The TPA is pleased that more than 150 people, combined, were in attendance for the Cardio Tennis seminar and TPA Conference.
